This research aims to explore the expressive potential of Diwani Arabic calligraphy by integrating it with printmaking and digital printing techniques to create visual compositions inspired by natural phenomena such as wind, storms, space, and volcanic eruptions. The research problem centers on how to transform Arabic calligraphy from a traditional writing system into a dynamic artistic element capable of expressing energy movements and natural transformations, while maintaining a balance between heritage and modernity.
The study adopts an experimental applied methodology, producing 11 artistic compositions using various printmaking techniques such as drypoint, silkscreen, digital image processing via Photoshop, and digital printing. The research also adopted the descriptive and analytical approach in analyzing the interaction between lines, textures, colors, and digital effects. The results demonstrated the success of combining Arabic calligraphy with mixed media techniques in creating expressive visual works characterized by movement and fluidity, embodying nature through a modern abstract style. Practical applications on commercial products such as clothing and stationery also proved the effectiveness of the designs in enhancing a contemporary artistic visual identity.
The research highlights the importance of developing Arabic calligraphy as a modern design tool and emphasizes the need for continuous artistic and technical experimentation to expand the boundaries of expression and creativity in printmaking. It recommends adopting educational and artistic approaches that promote the fusion of heritage with technological innovation, as well as increasing opportunities to exhibit such works to affirm their cultural and commercial value.
